emory ptPhysical Therapy, Emory Medical School Partnership

League of Hope is proud to be working with the Physical Therapy Department of Emory's Medical School to provide training for Haitian PT technicians. This program focuses on providing the medical support personnel and the expertise to train technicians to provide vital physical therapy services to patients in Haiti. Physical therapy is not available in most areas of Haiti, and is critical to recover for many injuries. This program operates under the guidance of Dr. Sara Pullen of Emory, the UN Prosthetics and Orthotics cluster and Healing Hands for Haiti.

League of Hope is proud to fund a Haitian psychiatrist through Healing Hands for Haiti who works with approximately 150 patients with spinal cord injuries. The patients have access to the psychiatrist for individual sessions, and there are also biweekly group sessions. The work focuses on the mental health aspects of healing after a debilitating injury, and helps reintegrate the patient back into their families and communities. The group also works on job skills and advocacy issues for the disabled.

League of Hope has been a long time supporter of Dr. Megan Coffee and her tuberculosis clinic at the General Hospital in Port Au Prince. Dr. Coffee has had a very high cure rate at the clinic, and is responsible for providing food for her patients in addition to medical care. League of Hope has been able to provide critical medicine through our partnership with MAP International, peanut butter for her patients through our agricultural contacts, and funding for operations.
